Rhys Hoskins: Everything you need to know

Hoskins went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Yankees. The Guardians got major contributions from the middle of the order with cleanup batter Kyle Manzardo and Hoskins behind him combining to go 5-for-8 with two doubles, two homers and four RBI. The clout was the sixth for Hoskins, who has spent a good portion of the season hovering around a .200 batting average. Hoskins is slashing .203/.349/.414 over 49 games.

Hoskins is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals. Hoskins will head to the bench after he had started in each of the last six games, going a collective 4-for-20 with a home run, two doubles, a walk and two RBI during that stretch. Though he should remain a mainstay in the Cleveland lineup against left-handed pitching, Hoskins is still expected to play second fiddle to Kyle Manzardo at first base versus righties.

Hoskins will start at first base and bat cleanup in Sunday's game against the Phillies. Hoskins will stick in the lineup for the fifth game in a row, with four of those starts coming at first base in place of Kyle Manzardo. The two have largely been working in a platoon this season, but Manzardo has been on the bench for three of the Guardians' last four matchups with right-handed pitchers, despite having posted a .924 OPS since the beginning of May. It's unclear if Hoskins has usurped Manzardo as the Guardians' primary option at first base, as it's possible that manager Stephen Vogt just wanted to give Hoskins a full slate of starts during the three-game series in Philadelphia, where the 33-year-old spent the first seven seasons of his big-league career.
