Is Recent Red Sox Trade Pitch with Mets That Includes Jarren Duran a Good Idea for Boston?

Jarren Duran had another big year for the Red Sox in 2025 but could find himself playing in a different uniform next year.

The Boston Red Sox and New York Mets have been two of the most active teams in MLB this offseason in terms of making trades.

A recent trade idea by Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller predicts that Jarren Duran will be traded at some point during the 2026 season, and the Mets are floated as a destination. However, Miller also writes that the Red Sox would get Brett Baty and Mark Vientos, two promising young infielders, in a return package for Duran. So, is this a good trade idea for the Red Sox? Or is Duran too valuable to let go at this very moment, even though Boston has a stacked outfield core?

Jarren Duran Rumors Aren’t Going Away

Unfortunately for Red Sox fans, this offseason has featured a lot of Jarren Duran rumors. Duran has been a highly productive player for Boston, but the fact he hasn’t been extended, and given the other names in the Red Sox outfield (Ceddanne Rafaela, Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu), Boston is at a crossroads of options.

The reality is that Masataka Yoshida should be the name that the Red Sox want to offload, but it’d be hard for any team to take on his contract and defensive liability. Duran is such an attractive candidate because he’s controllable, young, and has been very productive with the bat.

Jarren Duran’s 2024 season (8th in AL MVP voting): 48 doubles, 14 triples, 21 home runs, .285 average, 132 OPS+.

If there was any time to sign Duran, it was directly after that 2024 season.

His 2025 stats: 41 doubles, 13 triples, 16 home runs, .256 average, 114 OPS+.

The reason the New York Mets are floated in this recent trade idea is that they may become desperate with the outfield position if Luis Robert Jr. doesn’t have a resurgent season, and if rookie Carson Benge isn’t productive enough with the ABs he’s given.

Will the Red Sox Move One of Their Outfielders Before Opening Day?

Trade at this point of the season, where spring training is in full swing, is rare, but once the MLB regular season gets going, names like Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, and Kristian Campbell are surely going to become the subject of trade rumors once again.

Kerry Miller floating the idea of Jarren Duran to the Mets just doesn’t seem like a good idea for the Red Sox to make right now, but it could be a deal they revisit in the future if the organization really is serious about moving on from Duran.

Let me know what you think. Is this proposed trade by Bleacher Report a good idea right now? In the future? Or not at all?
