Experience
Burtland Dixon is a sports and entertainment journalist based in California and New York, with over eight years of experience covering the intersection of sports, culture, and media. He contributes to Heavy.com with a focus on the NBA, offering an athlete’s insight and a journalist’s precision.
A former NCAA Division II track and field athlete, Dixon brings a firsthand understanding of the discipline and mindset that drive professional competitors. His dual perspective allows him to analyze stories beyond the box score — exploring how performance, personality, and pop culture shape today’s athletes.
Before joining Heavy, Dixon served as an Associate Editor at ClutchPoints, where several of his stories ranked among the most-read in the publication’s history. His work has also appeared in Idolator, Trend Chaser, and Buzznet, and he has collaborated on editorial projects with major sports and entertainment brands.
Dixon earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mass Media from California State University San Marcos, where he was captain of the track and field team and served as sports editor for the university newspaper.
