Santillan blew the save in the Reds' 7-6 extra-inning win over the Cardinals in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout over one inning. Santillan got the ball with a two-run lead in the ninth inning and surrendered a leadoff homer before yielding the tying run on a two-out single. The rocky outing extended a disastrous month for the 29-year-old, who owns a 14.21 ERA in May while allowing runs in six of eight appearances. For the year, he owns a 5.85 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 21:11 K:BB across 20 innings with two saves and 10 holds.

Antonio Santillan: Breaking News
Converts save Tuesday night
Santillan pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two Phillies in the process to get his second save of the season Tuesday night. That makes two scoreless outings in a row for Santillan, who previously went through a brutal stretch where he allowed at least one homer in four consecutive games. The Reds are going with the lukewarm hand right now, grasping at straws to find anyone to stabilize the back end of their bullpen, and might have found a sliver of hope in Santillan.
Struggles continue Wednesday
Santillan (1-2) took the loss Wednesday as the Reds fell 8-7 to the Nationals, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit in the 10th inning. After Graham Ashcraft has worked a scoreless ninth to get the game to extras, Santillan got the call in the top of the 10th but served up a game-winning two-run homer to Daylen Lile. Santillan has fallen apart in May with the Reds' closer role there for the taking while Emilio Pagan (hamstring) is on the shelf -- he's served up long balls in four straight appearances and has been tagged for runs in all five of his outings this month, seeing his ERA inflate from 1.98 at the end of April to a ghastly 5.82.
