Luis Mey: Everything you need to know

The Reds optioned Mey to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday. Mey will fall short of a spot in Cincinnati's Opening Day bullpen after surrendering nine earned runs in just six Cactus League innings. Although he struggled this spring, the 24-year-old righty posted a 3.43 ERA in 21 innings with the Reds last season and a 2.48 ERA across 40 frames in the minors, so he figures to rejoin the big-league squad at some point this year whenever Cincinnati needs a fresh arm.

The Reds optioned Mey to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Mey has managed to hold the opposition to one run over 6.2 innings during his latest stint in the majors, but that's in spite of nine hits and seven walks. The Reds will announce a corresponding roster move prior to Friday's game in Arizona.

The Reds recalled Mey from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday. He will take the roster spot vacated by left-hander Taylor Rogers, who was traded to the Pirates on Wednesday. Mey's stay in the big leagues could be brief, as the Reds will need to free another spot on the 26-man active roster once the newly-acquired Ke'Bryan Hayes officially reports to the club.
