WATCH: Paul Ryan Says Gun Control is Not How to Stop Terrorism

In a press conference this morning, House Speaker Paul Ryan responded to the Orlando shooting by saying gun control reform is not the way to prevent further attacks from happening.

“Is going after the second amendment how you stop terrorism? No,” Ryan said. “Let’s not take our eye off the ball here…this is a person who was radicalized by Islamic terrorists, so we want to make sure we’re focused on the real issue here, which is terrorism.”

Ryan did add that it is important to make sure people who shouldn’t get a gun can’t get a gun. But he did not seem to support the idea of ensuing those on the terrorist watch list can not buy weapons.

“We don’t take away citizens’ rights without due process,” Ryan said. “And so if you have a quick idea in the heat of a moment that says, ‘Let’s take away a person’s rights without due process,’ we’re going to stand up and defend the constitution.”
