A Memphis shooting protest and riot in Frayser has left officers and reporters on the scene with minor injuries, according to local reports.
The shooting occurred in the 2000 block of Durham in Memphis and involved the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, a U.S. Marshal Service, at about 7 p.m. local time, officials said. Officials have not released any details on the shooting. A local reporter said marshals were serving a warrant on a “violent suspect” who “pulled a rifle” on a marshal. He was identified as Brandon Webber.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released a statement, that did not identify Webber, saying U.S. Marshals were serving warrants on a man who rammed his vehicle into the officers’ vehicles before exiting with a weapon.
“Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 7 p.m., multiple officers with the United States Marshals Service – Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force encountered a male, wanted on multiple warrants, outside of a home in the 2700 block of Durham Street as he was getting into a vehicle. While attempting to stop the individual, he reportedly rammed his vehicle into the officers’ vehicles multiple times before exiting with a weapon. The officers fired striking and killing the individual. No officers were injured,” the statement said.
Several officers and at least two reporters suffered minor injuries on the scene.
“Several officers have received minor injuries due to individuals throwing bricks/rocks at the officers. Officers are being check by paramedics. This is still an active scene. MPD officers are securing the area so that TBI can make the scene,” Memphis police wrote on Twitter.
TBI confirmed: “MEDIA: TBI Agents are responding to scene of an officer-involved shooting in the 2000 block of Durham in Memphis involving members of the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, US Marshal Service. PIO @TBIKeli is headed to the scene & will provide additional info when possible”
A local reporter, Luke Jones with WREG-TV, said he was hit in the head and knocked to the ground, forcing him to move to a new location.
Rebecca Butcher with Local News 24 said her photographer was injured.

The Daily Memphian reported “chaos erupts” in Frayser.
Jones shared a video of two men smashing a Memphis Police car with a chair.
He also shared a video of people in a crowd throwing things at officers.
Several reporters said they heard gunfire on the scene. Butcher seemed to capture a video with audio of apparent gunfire. Scanner chatted reported several calls of shots fired in the area, telling officers to “proceed with extreme caution.”
News sources reported “tensions rise” as officers stand off against a gathering crowd.
Katina Rankin with Local 24 News shared a video of a man confronting a line of police officers with riot shields raised.
She also shared a video that seemed to capture audio of gunshots.
Joyce Peterson with WMC-TV also captured a video that seemed to catch the sound of gunfire.
