Payne signed a one-year, $3.1 million contract with the Knicks on Monday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Payne appeared in 78 games across stops with Milwaukee and Philly a season ago, averaging 7.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 16.7 minutes. He'll join New York as backcourt depth behind Jalen Brunson on a veteran's minimum contract.

Latest Knicks News
Cameron Payne : Inks deal with New York
Payne signed a one-year, $3.1 million contract with the Knicks on Monday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Payne appeared in 78 games across stops with Milwaukee and Philly a season ago, averaging 7.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 16.7 minutes. He'll join New York as backcourt depth behind Jalen Brunson on a veteran's minimum contract.
Jalen Brunson : Inks extension with New York
The Knicks signed Brunson to a four-year, $156.5 million contract extension Friday that includes a player option in the fourth year, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Brunson was eligible to sign a five-year, $269 million deal in 2025, but his decision to take a pay cut in 2024 will provide the Knicks with cap flexibility as they look to maximize their championship window. The star guard was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2023-24 after averaging 28.7 points, 6.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 35.4 minutes across 77 regular-season appearances. Despite coming up short in the Eastern Conference Semifinals to Indiana, Brunson also had a fantastic playoff run, averaging 32.4 points, 7.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 39.8 minutes across 13 postseason outings. With OG Anunoby already signing a five-year extension this offseason, Brunson's decision could allow New York the ability to retain players like Mikal Bridges long-term.
Ariel Hukporti : Signs two-way with NYK
The Knicks signed Hukporti to a two-way pact on Monday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports. The final pick of the 2024 Draft secured a two-way deal with the Knicks, and he will likely spend most of his time with their G League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks. Hukporti played overseas with Riesen Ludwigsburg in the German Bundesliga and spent time in the Australian NBL in 2023-24. Across 43 games in both leagues in 2023-24, the 22-year-old averaged 8.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks across 17.7 minutes per game.
Keita Bates-Diop : Dealt to Knicks
The Nets are trading Bates-Diop (shin), Mikal Bridges to the Knicks in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic, Shake Milton, four unprotected first-round picks, an unprotected pick swap and a second-round pick Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Bates-Diop averaged 3.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 12.5 minutes across 53 appearances between the Nets and Suns in 2023-24. With OG Anunoby (hamstring), Mikal Bridges, Julius Randle (shoulder) and Josh Hart all featuring ahead of Bates-Diop in the forward rotation, he will likely compete for depth minutes.
Charlie Brown : Hits free agency
The Knicks did not extend a two-way qualifying offer to Brown (concussion) on Saturday, making him an unrestricted free agent, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports. Brown played on a two-way contract with the Knicks last season, but made just eight appearances at the NBA level. He's likely to have a lukewarm market in free agency.
Precious Achiuwa : To hit free agency
The Knicks did not extend a $6.3 million qualifying offer to Achiuwa on Saturday, making him an unrestricted free agent, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports. Katz is reporting that the Knicks haven't ruled out the idea of bringing Achiuwa back, but right now they are prioritizing flexibility for their cap space. After being acquired from the Raptors last season, Achiuwa went on to make 49 appearances for the Knicks with averages of 7.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 blocks in 24.2 minutes.
Jericho Sims : Knicks pick up team option
The Knicks have picked up Sims' $2.1 million team option Saturday, Stefan Bondy of The New York Post reports. Sims will return to the Knicks for at least one more year. This comes amid uncertainty around Isaiah Hartenstein's future with the club, as the Knicks have reported interest in bringing the big man back. Sims appeared in 45 regular-season games last year, during which he averaged 2.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.4 blocks across a career-low 13.0 minutes per game
Jacob Toppin : Knicks extend qualifying offer
The Knicks extended their two-way qualifying offer to Toppin on Saturday, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports. Toppin was a non-factor for the Knicks last season, during which he averaged 1.4 points and 0.8 rebounds across 4.2 minutes in nine regular-season games. However, the 24-year-old averaged 19.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.1 blocks across 36.7 minutes per game with the team's G League affiliate. Toppin has shown promise, but he will likely not see a significant uptick in NBA playing time next season.
