During her two years at Oregon State, Van Gundy was a Sports Columnist/Reporter for the University's newspaper, The Daily Barometer. Van Gundy covered numerous games for the Oregon State baseball, softball, men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, and football games. In her first year with the newspaper she earned second place through the Pacific Northwest Association of Journalism Educators for 'Best Sports Story' in a feature piece on OSU baseball's Dallas Macias. During the remainder of her time at OSU, Van Gundy was an active member of both the Marketing Club and the Sports Business Club, while also holding a position as a Sports Program Associate for the intramural sports, and securing an internship her senior year with TORQ Sports as a Volleyball Video Breakdown Scout.

As a content programming assistant with the NFL, Van Gundy focused on creating highlights for NFL.com during games, syndicating content to outside partners, and working hand-in-hand with the YouTube team to make VODs and shorts. Van Gundy wrote and produced an NFL YouTube video breaking down how the Los Angeles Rams should approach their 2026 offseason that reached over 20,000 views in just three days.

McKenna Van Gundy received an associates degree from Moorpark Community College and then transferred to Oregon State University. She graduated with a bachelors of science in business administration and a minor in sports business.
