Cade Povich: Breaking News

Povich (elbow) will resume throwing bullpen sessions this week, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Inflammation in his left elbow landed Povich on the 15-day injured list exactly one month ago, and he's finally improved enough to throw off the mound again. The southpaw is likely to require at least one rehab start before rejoining the Orioles. If Povich beats Dean Kremer (quadriceps) and/or Chris Bassitt (back) back from the IL, he'll have a good chance to enter the Baltimore rotation.

Povich (elbow) met with Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday and is without an official timetable for his return after receiving a cortisone injection, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. The left-hander landed on the shelf May 8 due to elbow inflammation, and it appears he's avoided a serious injury after being evaluated further. Povich will be eligible to be reinstated from the injured list this weekend, but his lack of official return timeline indicates that his absence is likely to extend into June.

The Orioles placed Povich on the 15-day injured list Friday with left shoulder inflammation. Povich had to depart Thursday's game in Miami with the injury, and it's not a surprise it led to an IL stint. According to Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun, it's not believed to be a serious injury, though the 26-year-old could get a cortisone injection. Trey Gibson has taken Povich's spot on the Baltimore roster.
