Frank Anthony Banda: Breaking News

Banda earned the save in Friday's 8-6 win over the Red Sox, striking out one over 1.1 perfect innings. Banda entered a 7-6 game with two men on and two outs in the eighth inning, and he was able to put out the fire before retiring the side in the ninth. It marked the southpaw's first save chance of the season, and he now owns a 6.23 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB across 21.2 innings. The Twins have had 10 pitchers record a save in 2026, so this is a closer situation to be avoided until there appears to be a change in philosophy.

Banda will make Minnesota's final 26-man roster, MLB.com reports. He had a 4.91 ERA and 9:6 K:BB in 7.1 innings this spring. Banda should have a prominent role in the setup corps for the Twins. However, he's one of three lefties in the bullpen, which could limit his usage in the highest-leverage roles.

The Twins acquired Banda from the Dodgers on Thursday in exchange for international bonus pool money, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Banda had been designated for assignment last week and is now on his way to a new organization. The lefty collected a 3.14 ERA and 111:52 K:BB over 114.2 regular-season innings during his time with the Dodgers and should fill a high-leverage relief role as part of an unsettled Twins bullpen.
