Jeffrey Caglianone: Breaking News

Caglianone went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Mariners. Caglianone contributed to the Royals' three-run first inning with a two-out RBI single before promptly stealing second base. It marked the 23-year-old's first successful stolen base of the season after he was caught in his lone previous attempt April 4 against the Brewers. Speed isn't exactly the right fielder's calling card, though he has shown improvement at the plate in his second big-league season. Caglianone is slashing .247/.310/.416 with 15 extra-base hits (five homers), 11 RBI and 18 runs across 47 games in 2026 after mustering just a .532 OPS in 62 contests in 2025.

Caglianone went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Red Sox. Caglianone accounted for two of the Royals' six hits, and he drove in just his 10th run of the season with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning. He now has two straight multi-hit games and is slashing .254/.322/.442 with five homers, 10 RBI, 18 runs scored and a 12:43 BB:K across 152 plate appearances this season. Caglianone has a strong batted-ball profile, as he's in the 95th percentile or better in average exit velocity (94 mph), barrel rate (17.6 percent), hard-hit rate (54.9 percent) and bat speed (76.5 mph), but the results haven't been there in a Kansas City offense that has struggled as a whole.

Caglianone isn't in the Royals' starting lineup Sunday versus St. Louis. Caglianone will begin the game on the bench for the third time in the past five contests despite right-hander Andre Pallante being on the mound for the Cardinals. Caglianone has been fairly productive in May, batting .239 with three homers over 46 at-bats. Lane Thomas is starting in right field for the Royals on Sunday.
