Joshua Rojas: Breaking News

The Royals optioned Rojas to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. Rojas made one start in his handful of days with the big club, collecting one hit in five plate appearances. He's being scrubbed from the active roster in order to make room for Stephen Kolek (personal), who will start Tuesday's game versus the Rangers.

The Royals selected Rojas' contract from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday. Rojas will receive another opportunity in the majors after slashing .246/.309/.433 with six home runs and a 16:32 BB:K over 48 games with Omaha. The 31-year-old will provide infield depth while Maikel Garcia (hamstring) is banged up, and Rojas is capable of handling the outfield, as well.

The Royals signed Rojas to a minor-league contract Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Rojas slashed just .180/.252/.259 over 69 games for the White Sox in 2025 before being released in August. The 31-year-old's defensive versatility will give him a shot to earn a spot on the Royals' Opening Day roster, but the better bet is that he begins the season at Triple-A Omaha.
