Vincent Pasquantino: Breaking News

Royals manager Matt Quatraro said that Pasquantino underwent surgery Sunday to remove a fractured hamate bone in his right hand and will face a recovery timeline of roughly 4-to-6 weeks, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. The projected timeline is a fairly standard one for hamate surgeries and likely indicates that the Royals plan on holding Pasquantino out through the All-Star break in mid-July. Jac Caglianone is slated to start at first base in Sunday's game against the Astros and should see the bulk of the playing time at the position for the duration of Pasquantino's stint on the 10-day injured list.

The Royals placed Pasquantino (hand) on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a right hamate fracture. The 28-year-old sustained the injury during Saturday's contest and now seems likely to be sidelined at least through the All-Star break, though he's currently without an official timeline for his return. Jac Caglianone replaced Pasquantino at first base Saturday and is also starting there Sunday, while John Rave was called up from Triple-A Omaha to bolster Kansas City's bench.

The Royals announced that Pasquantino sustained a right hamate injury in Saturday's game against the Astros. It's not good news for the Kansas City first baseman, who could be looking at an extended absence if he's dealing with a fracture. Pasquantino was removed from the contest after popping out in the bottom of the fifth inning. Over his previous 14 games, Pasquantino had slashed .309/.397/.436 with four doubles, one homer and eight RBI, so it's certainly bad timing, as he'd just been starting to heat up at the plate after an extremely slow start to the season.
