Off injury report for Monday
Ball (calf) is off the injury report for Monday's matchup against the Rockets. Ball will return to game action after missing Friday's loss to Philadelphia due to left calf injury management. The 23-year-old has made only two appearances in December due to the calf injury, during which he has averaged 24.5 points, 12.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals across 30.0 minutes per contest.
Won't play Friday
Ball is out for Friday's game versus the 76ers due to left calf injury management. Ball hasn't suffered any new injury but will sit out Friday's contest due to it being the second leg of a back-to-back. Vasilije Micic will likely receive increased playing time in his absence. Ball should return to action for Monday's matchup with Houston.
Posts season-high 13 assists
Ball chipped in 34 points (11-32 FG, 3-18 3Pt, 9-10 FT), four rebounds, 13 assists and four steals in 34 minutes during Thursday's 123-114 loss to Washington. While Ball's counting stats were eye-popping, his efficiency was poor in Thursday's loss. Over his last 10 outings, Ball is averaging 31.4 points, 8.7 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 34.0 minutes. However, over that span, he is shooting just 40.2 percent from the field and 31.8 percent on 13.2 three-point attempts per contest.
Double-double in return
Ball (calf) racked up 15 points (5-15 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 11 assists, five rebounds and four steals across 26 minutes during Monday's 121-108 loss to Philadelphia. The fifth-year point guard had missed the prior seven games with a left calf strain, but Ball looked fully healthy in his return, setting a season high in steals while collecting his fifth double-double in 19 appearances. Brandon Miller (ankle) left the game in the fourth quarter and didn't return, so Ball could see even higher usage in the short term. He may not have much more of a ceiling to reach, however -- on the season, Ball is averaging a career-high 30.2 points and 4.6 triples per game with 7.2 assists, 5.4 boards and 1.3 steals.
Playing Monday vs. Sixers
Ball (calf) will be available for Monday's game against the 76ers, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports. Ball has been sidelined for the Hornets' last seven games due to a left calf injury, but the All-Star point guard will make his return Monday while operating on a minutes restriction. In the 10 games prior to his injury, Ball averaged 33.4 points, 7.7 assists and 5.9 rebounds over 35.4 minutes per contest.
On track to play Monday
Ball (calf) is officially listed as questionable but will go through his pregame workout with the intention of suiting up Monday against the 76ers. Coach Charles Lee said he feels "pretty good" about Ball getting clearance to play Monday, which would be the All-Star's first appearance since Nov. 27. Before the injury, Ball was in the midst of a superstar stretch, averaging 40.3 points, 8.3 assists and 7.5 rebounds in 37.5 minutes per game over his previous four appearances. However, he's expected to face a minutes restriction against Philadelphia.
Chance to return Monday
Ball (calf) is questionable for Monday's game against the 76ers. Ball has missed seven straight games due to a left calf injury, but he has a chance to return Monday. The All-Star point guard was on fire before the injury, averaging 40.3 points, 8.3 assists and 7.5 rebounds in 37.5 minutes per game over his previous four appearances.
Limited practice participant
Ball (calf) joined "group/team setting work" at practice Wednesday, Sam Perley of the Hornets' official site reports. Ball being on the floor to presumably work in position groups and scheme work sheds light on his status, with key next steps being an ascension to partial contact or mini scrimmages. Ball is due for a formal re-evaluation on his left calf strain in the coming days.
Will miss some time
Ball has been diagnosed with a left calf strain and will be reevaluated two weeks from the date of the injury sustained on Nov. 27. Ball injured his left calf in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's game versus Miami. Two weeks from that date will be Dec. 11, which means a reasonable estimation for his earliest return may not be until Dec. 19 at Washington following the NBA's in-season tournament. The star guard has averaged career highs in points (31.1) and three-pointers (4.7) this season, both of which rank second league-wide. Additionally, he has logged 5.4 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 18 games. Backup point guard Tre Mann (back) has already been ruled out for at least two weeks, which means other candidates to see increased workloads in their absences are Brandon Miller, Seth Curry, Vasilije Micic, Nick Smith and Cody Martin.
