Schoonmaker caught 14 of 23 targets for 132 yards and zero touchdowns over 17 games for the Cowboys in 2025. The 2023 second-round pick has yet to miss a game in the NFL career, but Schoonmaker has done little else of note. His receiving numbers took a tumble from the 27-241-1 line he posted in 2024, and undrafted second-year player Brevyn Spann-Ford has moved past him on the depth chart due to his superior run blocking, although neither player is a threat to starting TE Jake Ferguson. Schoonmaker has one more year left on his rookie contract, but he hasn't done much to secure a spot in the Cowboys' long-term plans.
Schoonmaker went without a target while playing 30 of the Cowboys' 67 snaps on offense in Monday's 33-16 win over the Raiders. Schoonmaker ran routes on just six of his 30 snaps and was one of the few Dallas pass catchers to go without a look on a night in which quarterback Dak Prescott targeted nine different players. So long as top tight end Jake Ferguson is available, Schoonmaker looks like he'll mostly be limited to a tertiary role in the passing game while serving as a blocker more often than not when he's on the field.
Schoonmaker caught two of his three targets for 25 yards in Sunday's loss to the Broncos. The Cowboys curiously went away from Jake Ferguson in the contest as a receiving option, and as a result Schoonmaker saw a season-high three targets while also reaching double-digit receiving yards for the first time in 2025. The production wasn't much, but it's at least a positive sign for the third-year tight end. If Ferguson's disappearance from the game plan proves to be more than just a one-week trend, Schoonmaker could benefit.
