Warner (ankle) said at the start of San Francisco's voluntary workout program Monday that he no longer has any limitations relating to the ankle injury he suffered Week 6 of the 2025 season, Noah Furtado of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Warner appears to already be back to full health after having suffered a dislocated and fractured right ankle last October and subsequentially undergoing surgery. The star linebacker said in January that he would have been able to retake the field had the 49ers made it to the NFC Championship Game in the postseason, however, so it's no surprise to see that he's since been cleared. Barring any setbacks, Warner projects to return to his usual standing as a truly elite fantasy option in IDP formats during the 2026 campaign.

Williams and San Francisco agreed to terms Monday on a two-year, $50 million contract extension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Williams' extension provides him a salary reflecting his caliber of play that is more feasible than the tremendous $45.3 million number he had carried for 2026. Though he's now heading into his age-38 season, Williams is as sure a bet as exists in the league to continue operating at an elite level for the course of his new extension, which keeps him with the 49ers through 2027. HIs presence provides increased stability for the fantasy value of veteran RB Christian McCaffrey, as well as QB Brock Purdy.
Jones signed a one-year contract with San Francisco on Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Jones started all 17 regular-season games for the Dolphins in 2025, in which span he totaled a career-high 77 tackles (49 solo) plus six passes defensed, including one interception, and two forced fumbles. Now with the 49ers, Jones could provide Renardo Green with competition for outside-cornerback snaps across from Deommodore Lenoir, or challenge Darrell Luter for a depth role.
Sample has agreed to a one-year deal with the 49ers, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Sample, who the Bengals took in the fourth round of the 2021 draft, recorded 17 tackles and two sacks in 14 regular-season games (including two starts) for Cincinnati in 2025. With San Francisco, the Tulane product will bolster his new team's defensive line depth, though Sample will remain off the IDP radar unless he sees an uptick in playing time in his new locale.
San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that "in order to have [McCaffrey] be as good as he can be throughout the whole year, we've got to get someone to help him," Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. McCaffrey earned NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2025, in which he suited up for all 17 regular-season games while racking up 2,126 yards from scrimmage and 17 total touchdowns on a career-high 413 touches. Shanahan acknowledged that McCaffrey, who will turn 30 in June and was limited to just four appearances in 2024 due to Achilles and knee issues, may have had his efficiency hampered by his workhorse role in 2025, as he averaged just 3.9 YPC. Jordan James and Isaac Guerendo are current candidates to compete for an increased No. 2 role behind McCaffrey following the departure of Brian Robinson for Atlanta, but the 49ers also could make further additions to the backfield in April's draft.
San Francisco GM John Lynch said Sunday that Martin has been cleared from the concussion that ended his 2026 season, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Martin was placed on IR with a concussion Dec. 20th, and he was sidelined for the remainder of the season. The 2025 third-round pick tallied 11 tackles and one forced fumble across seven games as a rookie. Martin will likely once again see the majority of his playing time come on special teams while providing depth at inside linebacker.
49ers GM John Lynch said Sunday that talks with Williams regarding a reworked contract have "intensified" over the last week, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Williams had this $10 million option bonus declined by San Francisco on March 20th, and he currently carries a $46.3 million cap number for the 2026 season. The team will likely have to lower that number to keep the three-time All-Pro and twelve-time Pro Bowler on the roster. Lynch also said he feels like the two sides are "on the precipice of something good happening, but we'll see." Williams has started all 84 games that he's played in San Francisco, and he's entering his age-38 season in 2026.
49ers GM John Lynch said Sunday that Williams (knee) is expected to be back for training camp, David Lombardi of SFStandard.com reports. Williams tore the ACL and lateral meniscus in his right knee during the 49ers' Week 9 win over the Giants. Lynch acknowledged that the 2025 first-round pick might take longer than fellow defensive end Nick Bosa, who tore his ACL about 1.5 months earlier in late September. Williams tallied 20 tackles and a sack over nine games as a rookie.
