Pokemon Go players everywhere are speculating about the possibility of a St. Patrick’s Day event taking place this Friday. So could a special holiday event be on its way, or will Niantic sit this one out?

Over the past five months, Niantic has held a special event in Pokemon Go for virtually every major holiday. That started with Halloween, but there were also events for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and, most recently, Valentine’s Day.

Niantic has traditionally announced the event several days before the actual holiday, though. For example, the Halloween event was announced on October 24th, one week before Halloween, and it began on October 26th.

The Thanksgiving event was announced on November 21st, three days before Thanksgiving, and it began on November 23rd.

The Christmas event was announced on December 23rd, two days before Christmas, and it began on December 25th. The New Year’s event was announced at the same time, and that one began on December 30th.

Finally, the Valentine’s Day event was announced on February 8th, six days before Valentine’s Day, and it began on the same day that it was announced.

With every holiday event so far, then, the announcement came at least two days before the holiday if not much earlier, meaning if there were to be a St. Patrick’s Day event, we would likely know about it already. Also, every holiday event outside of the Christmas one has started at least a few days before the holiday itself, and so one would expect that the St. Patrick’s Day event would already be underway right now.

There’s still time left for Niantic to announce a St. Patrick’s Day event, but so far, players probably shouldn’t get their hopes up.
