According to Celebrity Net Worth, Messi is worth $115 million. Forbes reported his previous salary at $20.3 million. So the Argentine wonder is looking at a pay increase of around $30 million per year.


2. His New Contract Means He Makes More than Cristiano Ronaldo

Messi and Ronaldo are so often compared to each other, but Messi has won this little battle. The new contract will see Messi comfortably over take Ronaldo’s reporter $23 million per year. With Messi at Barcelona and Ronaldo at Real Madrid, the pair’s battles on the pitch attracted a worldwide audience of 400 million people in March.

3. Messi Pulls in an Additional $21 Million in Endorsements

According to Forbes, Messi and his rival, Ronaldo, pull in an identical $21 million in endorsement deals. The most lucrative of which is Messi’s deal with Adidas, which is worth $3.34 million per year. The three-time World Player of the Year also has deals with Pepsi, Herbalife, EA Sports, Cherry, Audemars Piguet and Dolce & Gabanna.

In 2013, Adidas denied rumors that they were trying to force Messi to move to a team sponsored by Adidas, Barcelona’s shirts are made by Nike.


4. Messi’s Contract Signing Comes as Barcelona Just Missed Out on Another Championship

Messi probably missed out on a tasty bonus as his Barcelona team failed to beat Atletico Madrid on May 19. So for the first time since 2004, a team who isn’t Barca or Real Madrid have won the Spanish championship. Things started well for Mess and co when Alexis Sanchez’s stunning strike gave them the lead. Typically though, Diego Simeone’s team dug-deep and scored to tie the game and win the championship for the Atleti.

At the age of just 26, Lionel Messi is Barcelona’s all-time leading goal scorer, a feat he achieved at just 24, you can watch ALL of his goals above. He’s also the team’s leading goalscorer against their hated rivals, Real Madrid. He turns 27 in June. In total, he’s scored 243 goals in 275 games for Barca.
