On January 10, just 10 days before Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the next president of the U.S., a complete dossier of dubious claims about Trump’s relationship with Russia was published by BuzzFeed News after circulating among journalists and officials for months. Among the claims that journalists and officials have not been able to verify is that Trump hired prostitutes to perform a “golden showers” in front of him.

During Trump’s press conference on January 11, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer called BuzzFeed’s decision to publish the report “frankly outrageous and highly irresponsible. “The fact that BuzzFeed and CNN made the decision to run with this unsubstantiated claim is a sad and pathetic attempt to get clicks,” Spicer added, referring to CNN’s decision to publish a story about the report. However, CNN’s report included none of the details from the dossier because the network had not independently corroborated the claims.

In a statement issued late on January 11, Director of National Intelligence James Comey issued a statement on the document, confirming that he spoke with Trump to assure him that the U.S. intelligence community was not behind the leaks and that the document was not created by the intelligence community.

“We also discussed the private security company document, which was widely circulated in recent months among the media, members of Congress and Congressional staff even before the IC became aware of it,” Clapper’s statement reads. “I emphasized that this document is not a U.S. Intelligence Community product and that I do not believe the leaks came from within the IC. The IC has not made any judgment that the information in this document is reliable, and we did not rely upon it in any way for our conclusions. However, part of our obligation is to ensure that policymakers are provided with the fullest possible picture of any matters that might affect national security.”

Although Clapper said that the IC still hasn’t reached a judgement on the conclusions in the document, Trump tweeted that Clapper called him to “denounce the false and fictitious report that was illegally circulated. Made up, phony facts.Too bad!”

In a series of tweets on January 13, Trump continued to shoot down the allegations, citing Russia’s denials that it has anything on him. Even though Clapper personally told Trump that the report was not leaked by the Intelligence community, Trump again insinuated that it was.

One Claim in the Unverified Report Is That Trump Hired Russian Prostitutes to Help Him ‘Defile’ a Bed President Obama Slept In

The unverified report claims that Donald Trump hired Russian prostitutes to perform a “golden shower.”

The 32-page unverified dossier was authored by a former British spy, Christopher Steele, the Wall Street Journal reports. Steele, who has a solid reputation in the intelligence world, now runs a London-based intelligence firm.

Trump has vehemently denied all claims in the report, first calling it “fake news” and a “total political witch hunt.”

Among the claims in the report is that, during a 2013 visit to Moscow, Trump stayed at the Ritz Carlton’s Presidential Suite so he could sleep in the same bed President Barack Obama slept in during one of his official visits. The report claims that Trump wanted to defile the bed “by employing a number of prostitutes to perform a ‘golden showers’ (urination) show in front of him.” The report added that “The hotel was known to be under FSB control with microphones and concealed cameras in all the main rooms to record anything they wanted to.” (FSB refers to the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.)

As Mic points out, “golden shower” is a term for a sex act that involves urine, where a partner urinates on the other person. An anonymous Cosmopolitan confessional from 2014 featured two men and a woman discussing the sex act.

The Report Has Been Unverified & Was Known About Before the Election

The report has been alluded to in the past, even before the general election in November. On October 31, Mother Jones’ David Corn reported that the information in the document could be what former Senator Harry Reid was referring to in his letter to FBI Director James Comey.

Corn reported that in June, a “former Western intelligence officer” who worked on Russian matters for two decades and is now at a U.S. firm that focuses on Russia, was hired to investigate Trump’s ties to the country. The investigation was first funded by Republican opposition and then by a client linked to Democrats after Trump became the presumptive GOP presidential nominee. Corn reported that Mother Jones did look at the report, but did not publish all of it.

On January 10, CNN reported that Trump and President Barack Obama were both briefed on the contents of the report in a two-page synopsis. The network reported that the synopsis was presented by Comey, Clapper, CIA Director John Brennan and NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers. Sources told CNN that the officials wanted Trump to know that the Russians could have salacious information on Trump that could be used against him. Two national security officials also told CNN that the synopsis included allegations that Trump surrogates had conversations with Russian government intermediaries.

Again, CNN declined to publish the entire report, stressing that the details of the report haven’t been independently corroborated. Less than a few hours after the CNN report, BuzzFeed News decided to publish the entire 35-page document even though it also noted that the claims were unverified. “Now BuzzFeed News is publishing the full document so that Americans can make up their own minds about allegations about the president-elect that have circulated at the highest levels of the US government,” the site wrote.

Despite CNN’s report that Trump was briefed about the two-page synopsis, NBC News now disputes that. A senior U.S. intelligence official told NBC News that this was not the case. The NBC News sources say that Trump was briefed orally and not given any documents. “Intel and law enforcement officials agree that none of the investigations have found any conclusive or direct link between Trump and the Russian government period,” the official told NBC News.

CNN has issued a statement on Trump lumping CNN and BuzzFeed together.

“We made it clear that we were not publishing any of the details of the 35-page document because we have not corroborated the report’s allegations,” the network’s statement read. “Given that members of the Trump transition team have so vocally criticized our reporting, we encourage them to identify, specifically, what they believe to be inaccurate.”

However, Clapper’s statement does appear to confirm part of CNN’s original report. Clapper said that there was a briefing between him and Trump on January 6 and the two agreed that leaks of intelligence community findings to the press are “extremely corrosive and damaging to our national security.” In that briefing, they did discuss the unverified document.

McCain has issued a statement, confirming that he did receive the report and passed it on to Comey.

Upon examination of the contents, and unable to make a judgment about their accuracy, I delivered the information to the Director of the FBI. That has been the extent of my contact with the FBI or any other government agency regarding this issue.”

The Trump team has denied that the report has any truth to it. After tweeting “FAKE NEWS – A TOTAL POLITICAL WITCH HUNT!” on January 10, Trump posted a series of messages a few hours before his press conference at 11 a.m. ET on January 11.

“Russia just said the unverified report paid for by political opponents is ‘A COMPLETE AND TOTAL FABRICATION, UTTER NONSENSE.’ Very unfair!” Trump wrote. “Russia has never tried to use leverage over me. I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSIA – NO DEALS, NO LOANS, NO NOTHING! I win an election easily, a great ‘movement’ is verified, and crooked opponents try to belittle our victory with FAKE NEWS. A sorry state! Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to “leak” into the public. One last shot at me.Are we living in Nazi Germany?”

Michael Cohen, who was Trump’s attorney, said that a claim in the report that he met with Russians in Prague. “I have never been to Prague in my life,” he tweeted, including the image of his passport. CNN’s Jake Tapper is also reporting that different Michael Cohen was in Prague at the time.

“It’s so ridiculous on so many levels. Clearly the person who created this did so from their imagination or did so hoping the liberal media would run with this fake story for whatever rationale they might have,” Cohen said of the claims in an interview with Mic.

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin is calling for a special investigation into the allegations inn the report. On January 9, Durbin also announced that he was introducing a bill to require future presidents and vice presidents to divest personal financial conflicts of interest.

4Chan Users Claim They Were Behind the Report, Which 1 User Called ‘Fanfiction’

A 4Chan user claimed that the report BuzzFeed published was really created by other 4Chan users and emailed to political pundit Rick Wilson, who “thought it was real and gave it to the CIA.” A 4Chan user called the report “fanfiction.”

Wilson posted a statement to deny that he was the source for BuzzFeed and called the 4Chan claims “utterly, entirely, and profoundly false and risible.”

“If you believe the Russian/4chan spin that this information came from them, you can’t use a calendar, or common sense,” Wilson wrote. “This information on Trump’s various personal and business dealings in Russia was being pursued by major campaigns and by major media to my knowledge as early as late July of 2015, and the ‘Ritz Carlton’ information was out in the summer of 2016.”

John Schindler, who worked for the NSA, also tweeted that the report could not have come from 4Chan.
