The Orioles signed Suarez to a major-league contract Friday. In order to make room on the 26-man roster for Suarez, Baltimore optioned Cameron Weston to Triple-A Norfolk. Suarez has pitched in seven games with the Orioles this season, making four starts, and has produced a 2.75 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 10:9 K:BB across 19.2 innings. He figures to slide back into the bullpen as a long reliever.

Albert Suárez: Breaking News
Opts for free agency
Suarez elected to become a free agent Thursday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. It's the second time since late April that Suarez opted for free agency after being removed from the Orioles' 40-man roster. He wound up re-signing the last time and could do so again. Suarez has posted a 2.75 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 10 strikeouts over 19.2 innings in seven appearances with Baltimore this season.
Dropped from 40-man roster
Suarez was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Sunday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Suarez appeared in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against Detroit, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out a batter in the team's 4-1 loss. The right-hander will now be placed on waivers for the second time in May, having posted a 2.75 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 10 strikeouts over 19.2 innings in seven appearances with Baltimore this season. If Suarez goes unclaimed, he'll likely report to Triple-A Norfolk.
