Chase Petty: Everything you need to know

Petty (blister) took the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out one over three innings against Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday. Petty battled a blister on his pitching hand in his previous start, but he was cleared to toe the rubber Sunday. He turned in one of his worst outings of the 2026 season, tying a season high in hits allowed and runs allowed. Unless the team states otherwise, Petty appears to have put the blister behind him.

Reds manager Terry Francona said Tuesday that Petty was dealing with a blister during his start for Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. Petty bit the blister off his finger and continued pitching, but he allowed three runs on six hits with a 1:3 K:BB over 3.2 innings. It's unclear when Petty will make his next start, but the blister issue takes him out of consideration for a start with the Reds later this week.

The Reds optioned Petty to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday. Petty made a spot start during Monday's 5-4 loss to the Cubs, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in 5.2 innings. With Nick Lodolo (finger) due back from the injured list this weekend, Petty will rejoin the Louisville rotation.
