Mayo is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Jeremiah Jackson will step in at third base in place of Mayo, who will hit the bench after going 1-for-16 with a 0:7 BB:K over his last six games. The young infielder has already endured multiple lulls in production less than two months into the season and is slashing just .165/.234/.306 while striking out at a 29.8 percent clip over 94 plate appearances. Once the Orioles get the likes of Jackson Holliday (hand) and Jordan Westburg (elbow) back from the injured list, Mayo will be in danger of moving into more of a part-time role, if Baltimore doesn't option him to Triple-A Norfolk.

Coby Mayo: Breaking News
Idle for nightcap
Mayo isn't in the lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against Houston, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Mayo will grab a seat on the bench to begin Game 2 after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout in the earlier game. Weston Wilson will start at third base and bat eighth in Mayo's absence.
Breaks through with first homer
Mayo went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Royals. Mayo delivered a much-needed swing, launching a three-run homer off Kris Bubic in the second inning for his first long ball of the season. The long ball accounted for most of Baltimore's offense and marked a potential turning point after the young first baseman's slow start. Entering Tuesday, Mayo was slashing just .148/.258/.185 with only two extra-base hits across 62 plate appearances. He'll need to rattle off more performances like this one to solidify his role moving forward.
