Colin Holderman: Everything you need to know

Holderman (4-1) got the win after allowing a hit and no walks in a scoreless inning while striking out two in a 9-4 win over the Yankees on Tuesday. Holderman entered in the bottom of the fifth, striking out both Amed Rosario and Jazz Chisholm, and kept Cleveland's 5-4 lead intact. Coming off one of his worst appearances of the season Sunday -- when he allowed two earned runs to Boston in just one-third of an inning -- Holderman bounced back in a big way Tuesday. The 30-year-old has a 2.05 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB through 22 innings in his first season with Cleveland.

Holderman allowed one hit and struck out one over a scoreless sixth inning in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to Washington. Holderman has been near perfect since the Guardians recalled him in late April, which is encouraging given that the team recently placed Erik Sabrowski (elbow), a high-leverage reliever, on the injured list. In 13 appearances since being called up, Holderman has allowed just one run on eight hits and three walks while striking out 19 over 16.1 innings. He told Tim Stebbins of MLB.com that health is the main reason for his success in 2026 after the reliever logged a 7.01 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 25.2 innings for the Pirates last year. While Tuesday's outing was in a low-leverage spot, manager Stephen Vogt has recently incorporated Holderman late into close games. Within the last week, he's earned two wins and a hold.

Cleveland recalled Holderman from Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Holderman had a brief stint with the big-league club earlier in the campaign, appearing in two games and allowing two earned runs while posting a 3:2 K:BB over three innings. He'll likely take on a low-leverage role now that's he's back in Cleveland's bullpen. Holderman is filling the bullpen spot vacated by Shawn Armstrong, who landed on the IL with a right groin strain Sunday.
