Atlanta signed Thomas (elbow) to a minor-league contract Nov. 6. A Rule 5 pick of the Brewers last offseason, Thomas made just two appearances for Milwaukee before eventually undergoing internal brace surgery on his left elbow in July. The lefty will be sidelined at least until around midseason next year.
Thomas (elbow) elected to become a free agent Thursday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Thomas was a Rule 5 pick of the Brewers last offseason and made just two appearances for them before eventually undergoing internal brace surgery on his left elbow in July. He'll likely be shelved until around midseason and will not look to link up with a new organization as he continues his rehab.
Thomas will undergo surgery to have a loose body removed from his left elbow in mid-July, and it's also possible that he requires Tommy John surgery, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The left-hander was already ruled out for the rest of 2025 due to the elbow procedure, but the possibility of Tommy John surgery also puts his availability for 2026 in jeopardy. After being selected by the Brewers during the Rule 5 Draft in December, Thomas made just two appearances this season before landing on the injured list.
