Suarez (oblique) will resume hitting Tuesday and is set for an MRI Thursday to check the progress of his healing, Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati reports. If the Reds like what they see with Suarez's imaging later this week, he will travel with the team on its upcoming road trip and continue to ramp up his activities. A rehab assignment should come shortly after that if all goes well. Suarez has been sidelined since late April with a left oblique strain, but he should be able to make it back before the end of May if he remains free of setbacks.

Eugenio Suárez: Breaking News
Improving, but not close
Suarez (oblique) took 50 swings Thursday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. Reds manager Terry Francona noted Friday that Suarez's left oblique strain is about 50 percent better. Suarez will rest for a few days after Thursday's workout before ramping things back up. While the veteran slugger is improving, his return is not imminent. Nathaniel Lowe will continue to be the Reds' primary designated hitter while Suarez is out.
Upping workouts Monday
Suarez (oblique) will take grounders on the field and flips in the batting cage Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. Suarez's recovery from a left oblique strain has come along more slowly than expected, but he's ready to start ramping up baseball-related drills. He'll get another MRI later this week when the Reds return home in order to check his progress. Suarez should be ready to rejoin the Reds' active roster by mid-May if all goes well.
