Garrett Hampson: Breaking News

Inks minors deal with Cincinnati

The Reds signed Hampson to a minor-league contract Dec. 29. The Reds were one of three teams that Hampson spent time with in the majors in 2025, though he managed just a .419 OPS over 62 games between the three stops. The 31-year-old Hampson will likely begin the 2026 season at Triple-A Louisville, where he will give the Reds utility depth.

Released by St. Louis

The Cardinals released Hampson on Thursday. Hampson passed through waivers after being designated for assignment and is now a free agent. The utility player has slashed just .143/.250/.169 over 91 plate appearances between the Diamondbacks, Reds and Cardinals this season.

Booted off 40-man roster

The Cardinals designated Hampson for assignment Monday. Hampson was claimed off waivers from the Reds in late June but received only five starts and 35 plate appearances during his time in St. Louis. He'll now go through the waivers process again after losing his spot on the Cardinals' 40-man roster.
