Leonardo Rivas: Breaking News

The Mariners optioned Rivas to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday. Rivas had been in the lineup for only four of the Mariners' past 10 games. The slick-fielding infielder has managed just a .131/.263/.172 batting line in 38 contests for Seattle this season.

Rivas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. Rivas will be on the bench for the second time in three games and appears set to move into more of a utility role after Brendan Donovan's recent return from the injured list. While Donovan was on the shelf, Rivas served as the Mariners' primary third baseman but provided little fantasy value in that capacity. For the season, Rivas is batting just .141 with no home runs, two stolen bases, seven RBI and eight runs over 112 plate appearances.

Rivas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins. Will Wilson will receive the nod at third base in place of Rivas in the series finale. Rivas had started in nine of Seattle's last 10 games, batting just .129 with zero home runs or steals, four RBI and one run during that stretch. Even while he continues to see steady playing time in the absence of Brendan Donovan (groin), Rivas will hold limited fantasy appeal.
