Logan Allen: Everything you need to know

The Guardians returned Allen to Triple-A Columbus on Monday. Cleveland called Allen up from Triple-A Columbus on Sunday and designated him as its 27th man for a doubleheader with the Cubs, but he went unused out of the bullpen for either game of the twin bill. He'll slot back into the rotation upon returning to Columbus.

The Guardians recalled Allen from Triple-A Columbus to serve as the 27th man for Sunday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. The left-hander failed to crack Cleveland's starting rotation to begin the season and has instead stayed stretched out at Columbus. Allen pitched well in his lone Triple-A start, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts and a walk across five innings. Slade Cecconi and Parker Messick are penciled in as the Guardians' starting pitchers for the twin bill, setting up Allen to potentially work as a long reliever.

Allen could be called up if Tanner Bibee (shoulder) needs to skip a start or eventually lands on the injured list, Cade Cracas of SI.com reports. Bibee was removed from his start Thursday due to shoulder inflammation, which at this point is deemed to be minor. The Guardians don't have any rest days between now and when Bibee is next scheduled to pitch, so Allen may be on standby at Triple-A Columbus. If Cleveland wants to play it safe with the Bibee and place him on the injured list, then Allen would have an opportunity for two or more starts.
