Noelvi Marte: Breaking News

The Reds optioned Marte to Triple-A Louisville on Monday. Marte's playing time has been unsteady early on in the season and he hasn't helped himself with his performance, slashing just .138/.194/.138 with zero RBI and a 2:10 BB:K. The 24-year-old will try to get back on track at Louisville and should get another opportunity with the big club later this summer. Rece Hinds is taking Marte's spot on the roster and will get playing time in right field along with Will Benson.

Marte is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins. Marte's playing time had been trending up with starts in three of the last four contests against righties, but he'll take a seat for the series finale as the Marlins send right-hander Max Meyer to the bump. TJ Friedl, Dane Myers and Spencer Steer will patrol the outfield for the Reds on Thursday.

Marte is starting in right field and batting eighth Tuesday against the Marlins. Marte received the Opening Day start for the Reds but has been alternating starts in right field ever since with Will Benson. Marte has started all three games against left-handed pitchers and is picking up his third start versus a righty Tuesday. The 24-year-old is off to a slow start, going 1-for-12 with six strikeouts in six games, and he may need to get on track soon in order to avoid falling into a lesser role.
