A Michigan teenager’s warning about men who prey on women has gone viral. On February 17, Ashley Hardacre, 19, of Davison wrote a lengthy Facebook post about what happened to her after work. Leaving her shopping mall job late, she discovered on her drive home that there was a flannel shirt wrapped around her windshield wiper. Hardacre explained the circumstances saying, “There were two cars near me and one was running so I immediately felt uneasy and knew I couldn’t get out to get it off. At first, I thought maybe someone had just thrown it on my car for some odd reason.” Hardacre added that she had heard stories about men using shirts wrapped around windshield wipers to lure women out of cars.

1. Hardacre’s Post Has Been Shared Over 100,000 Times

Since posting the warning to her Facebook page, Hardacre’s message has been shared more than 100,000 times. Hardacre explains in the post that she drove to a secure place and then leaned out the window to remove the shirt. She adds, “I had seen posts lately about people finding things under their windshield wipers in the burton/flint area as an attempt to get girls out of their cars and distracted.”

During a segment with WJRT, Hardacre elabroated on her warning saying, “It is something that you never expect that would ever happen to you or someone would ever try to harm you in any way, but I was just so shocked. And now, I’m kind of passed the scared, I’m more of – I want other people to know that it is, you know, something that can happen to them.”

While in a separate piece with CBS News, Hardacre also said, “I posted about the incident to inform others that it can happen to anyone and that they shouldn’t fall for it. A lot of people think it is fake or it won’t happen to them. But you can never be too safe.”

2. Local Authorities Say There Are No Similar Reports Regarding Shirts in Windshield Wipers

In an interview with CBS News, Flint Township Police Detective Sgt. Brad Wangler said that although authorties haven’t had any official complaints about like Hardacre’s, people are reminded to be vigilant. Sgt. Wangler continued, “If something doesn’t seem right, or the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. But by all means, we need to know about this stuff when it happens.” He added, “Nothing like this has ever happened before. There have been no other incidences like this. It’s kind of unknown as to what or why or who [did this].”

According to her Facebook page, Hardacre is a business management student at the University of Michigan-Flint. She’s also a graudate of Davison High School.

In 2016, Hardacre spoke at the DECA confenerence. The DECA is a organization of high school and college marketing students. There are 275,000 members nationwide.

4. She’s Very Into Posting Photos of Herself & Her Boyfriend

Since January 2014, Hardacre has been in a relationship with D.J. Harrington. In March 2016, Hardacre posted the above video showing the pair’s relationship. It appeared with the caption: “I know its silly, but I made this for you! Just to show you that I love you and all of the memories we have made together. I cant wait for our future together, I love you!!.”

5. There Are 110 Registered Sexual Offenders in the Town of Davison

Online records show that there are 110 registered sex offenders in the town of Davison. Those records show that the town has fewer offenders than the nearby town of Burton which has 316 sex offenders.

Bizzarely, in October 2014, a sex offender from Davison named Larry Hocken asked a judge to allow him to be chemically castrated, reported the Flint Journal. Hocken had pleaded guilty to possessing “nearly 2,000 images of child pornography.”
