Codi Heuer: Everything you need to know

The Guardians selected Heuer's contract to the major-league roster Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Columbus. The 29-year-old righty joined Cleveland as a non-roster invitee in December and grabbed a place on the 40-man roster despite giving up eight runs with an 11:5 K:BB over eight innings during spring training. Heuer made three MLB appearances last season after being sidelined the previous four years due to injuries, and he'll likely need to pitch well for Columbus to get another look in the big leagues.

The Guardians signed Heuer to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Heuer got into three games between the Rangers and Tigers in 2025 but spent most of the season at the Triple-A level, where he held a 3.14 ERA and 62:17 K:BB over 48.2 innings. The 29-year-old reliever will compete for a spot in the Guardians' bullpen but is likely headed to Triple-A Columbus to begin next season.

The Tigers released Heuer on Thursday. The move clears space on the 40-man roster for the return of Paul Sewald (shoulder). Heuer has made three relief appearances at the big-league level this season between the Rangers and Tigers, yielding three runs with a 5:2 K:BB over 4.2 innings.
