Eduardo Salazar: Everything you need to know

Salazar signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. The 27-year-old hit free agency after being removed from the Nationals' 40-man roster in October. Salazar made 30 relief appearances for Washington last season and struggled to an 8.38 ERA, 2.17 WHIP and 23:16 K:BB over 29 innings. His deal with the Twins includes a foreign-team inquiry clause.

Salazar cleared waivers Wednesday and elected free agency. Salazar was one of four players that the Nationals booted off their 40-man roster after the end of the regular season, and he will now begin the offseason looking for a new opportunity. The 27-year-old righty turned in an unsightly 8.38 ERA and 2.17 WHIP across 29 innings in the big leagues this season, so he will most likely have to settle for a minor-league pact.

The Nationals optioned Salazar to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Salazar will lose his place on the active roster to make room for Luis Garcia, who signed with Washington on Tuesday. Salazar has struggled quite a bit in the big leagues this season, giving up 27 earned runs across 29 innings.
