Heston Kjerstad: Breaking News

The Orioles announced Monday that Kjerstad (hamstring) will be re-evaluated soon to determine his readiness for a rehab assignment, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. Kjerstad hasn't played in a game since he strained his right hamstring back on March 19, but he's finally closing in on a rehab assignment. Andy Kostka of TheBanner.com notes that the 27-year-old could begin an assignment over the weekend with Double-A Chesapeake if all goes according to plan during the week. Kjerstad is a good bet to remain in the minors once he's activated rather than being added to the Orioles' 26-man active roster.

Kjerstad (hamstring) is running and participating in baseball activities, per MLB.com. Kjerstad suffered a right hamstring strain during a March 19 Grapefruit League game, resulting in a stay on the injured list to open the season. The 27-year-old outfielder lacks a concrete timeline for a return to the field, though he'll likely need a minor-league rehab assignment before becoming an option to rejoin the Orioles.

The Orioles placed Kjerstad on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a right hamstring strain. Kjerstad was diagnosed with the hamstring strain following an MRI after he sustained the injury in a Grapefruit League game last Thursday. He'll be eligible to return from the IL on April 1, but since he has yet to resume baseball activity since tweaking his hamstring, Kjerstad will likely require more than a minimum-length stay on the shelf.
