Headed to G League

The Rockets assigned Williams to the G League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Sunday. Williams hasn't made an appearance since March 14 but will now head to the G League to receive increased opportunities. Williams is averaging 18.8 points, 3.8 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks in 29.2 minutes across his four outings for the Valley Vipers in 2024-25.
Muted role Tuesday

Williams supplied one point (0-1 FG, 1-2 FT) across two minutes during Tuesday's 115-102 loss to the Pacers. Williams was used sparingly in the loss, cracking the rotation after the game was decided. He continues to be nothing more than an emergency piece, having played double-digit minutes only twice all season. As we saw the previous night, it would take multiple injuries for Williams to have a chance of playing meaningful minutes.
Gets four-year deal with Houston

The Rockets converted Williams' two-way contract to a four-year, $8.2 million standard deal Sunday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. The third-year guard out of Buffalo has spent most of the 2024-25 season in the G League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, where he is averaging 18.8 points, 3.8 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks over 29.2 minutes per game. He's appeared in two of the Rockets' last six games while serving in a deep reserve role, and he's demonstrated enough talent and production to be signed to a standard deal. Williams could see some meaningful minutes against the Thunder on Monday as the Rockets are dealing with multiple injuries, including to Dillon Brooks (knee), Tari Eason (lower leg), Amen Thompson (shoulder) and Fred VanVleet (ankle).
Productive off bench Thursday

Williams contributed 11 points (5-9 FG, 1-3 3Pt), two rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal over 18 minutes off the bench during Thursday's 105-98 loss to the Warriors. The 26-year-old guard saw his biggest workload of the season as Houston coach Ime Udoka benched Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green for the entire fourth quarter in an effort to spark his sluggish squad. Williams delivered a solid all-around performance, but his path to consistent minutes will get even narrower with Fred VanVleet (ankle) expected back in the lineup after the All-Star break.
Recalled to NBA

Williams was recalled from the Rockets' G League affiliate Tuesday, Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network reports. Williams will join Houston ahead of its NBA Cup Quarterfinals matchup against the Warriors on Wednesday. The two-way guard has spent the majority of his time in the G League this year, and he likely won't see much action with the parent club.
Recalled to NBA

The Rockets recalled Williams from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Saturday, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports. As a two-way player, Williams is set to split time between the NBA and G League this season. However, Williams has made just one appearance for Houston in 2024-25.
Re-ups with Rockets

The Rockets signed Williams to a two-way contract Wednesday. Williams was on a two-way deal with the Rockets last season and appeared in 22 NBA games. He averaged 2.9 points and 1.0 rebounds across 5.9 minutes per game. The 34-year-old is also part of the Rockets' Summer League roster.
Plays well in finale

Williams contributed 13 points (6-9 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 0-3 FT), three rebounds, one block and one steal across 21 minutes during Sunday's 116-105 victory over the Clippers. Williams had just 21 appearances under his belt coming into the season finale, with an average of 5.1 minutes per contest. Williams played on a two-way contract this season, but the final impression he left on the coaching staff was a good one.
Cracks rotation Tuesday

Williams produced no counting stats in one minute during Tuesday's 118-106 victory over the Magic. Williams played one minute in the win, playing his first game of the season. With the Rockets now eliminated from postseason action, the coaching staff may opt to give Williams a few more minutes down the stretch. With that said, there is no indication he will play enough to be considered a fantasy asset, even in the deepest of leagues.
