Allen is set to sign a two-year, $4.1 million contract with the Bills, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Allen has spent most of his career as a backup and played in three games for Detroit last season, going 0-for-2 on pass attempts. With Buffalo, he'll likely be the No. 2 QB behind Josh Allen and replace previous backup Mitchell Trubisky, who is expected to sign with Tennessee. Kyle Allen's contract could be worth up to $6.1 million with incentives, per Schefter.
Allen didn't complete either of his pass attempts while appearing in three games with the Lions in 2025. He also had three rush attempts for minus-3 yards. Allen won the backup quarterback job in Detroit during training camp and retained the role throughout the regular season. However, he played only 16 offensive snaps because Jared Goff remained healthy. Allen is set to hit free agency this offseason, and he'll likely compete for a backup role once again.
Allen is in line to begin the 2025 regular season as the Lions' second quarterback, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Allen was in a battle with Hendon Hooker for the number two slot at quarterback behind Jared Goff in Detroit, and Allen ultimately won out when Hooker was cut Monday. In Allen's last regular-season start back in 2022 with Houston, he completed 20 of 39 pass attempts for 201 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, adding two rushes for one yard.
