Shakir secured all five targets for 54 yards and rushed once for two yards in the Bills' 31-10 win over the Dolphins on Thursday night. Shakir served as the Bills' leader in receptions, receiving yards and targets on the night, which was particularly noteworthy in a game during which Josh Allen recorded only 13 completions for 139 yards. The third-year wideout still is expected to serve as Buffalo's No. 1 receiver at least until rookie Keon Coleman gets his NFL legs under him, and Shakir will head into a Week 3 home matchup against the Jaguars on Monday, Sept. 23 with an 8-96-1 line on eight targets through the first two games.

Khalil Shakir Latest News
Paces pass catchers in win
Scores TD in first game post-Diggs
Shakir caught all three of his targets for 42 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-28 win over the Cardinals. Shakir made an athletic play on his 11-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter, rolling over a defender's body while avoiding being touched down to get across the goal line. The 24-year-old wide receiver has a chance to become the top option for Josh Allen after the Bills traded away Stefon Diggs in the offseason, but Shakir finished second on the team in both targets and receiving yards to rookie Keon Coleman, who caught four of his five targets for 51 yards in his NFL debut. Buffalo primarily leaned on its ground game in the season opener, but the Bills may opt to air it out more Thursday in Miami.
Quiet against Pittsburgh
Shakir caught his only target for five yards in Saturday's 9-3 preseason win over the Steelers. It was expected that Shakir would be catching passes from Josh Allen throughout most of the first half, though Allen ultimately sat -- likely due to wet field conditions. Even surrounded by the first-team offense, Mitch Trubisky failed to move the ball down the field, causing Shakir and all primary pass catchers to post a muted stat line. Shakir worked primarily in the slot with Keon Coleman and Mack Hollins out wide, though Curtis Samuel did not suit up, which will skew perceived roles heading into the final week of preseason action.
Bright spot amid team's poor outing
Shakir caught all three targets for 28 yards during Saturday's 33-6 preseason loss to the Bears. You will probably hear this nugget several times before fantasy drafts are over, but Shakir is the only wideout on the roster to ever catch a pass from Josh Allen. With Stefon Diggs off to Houston and Gabe Davis moving to the Jaguars, Shakir may be the best bet for fantasy production among the Buffalo wideout corps. However, rookie Keon Coleman is showing promise while veteran Curtis Samuel figures to see a number of touches in a jack-of-all-trades role, while running back James Cook and tight end Dalton Kincaid figure to factor in heavily in the passing game.
Practicing during training camp
Shakir, who dealt with a lower-body issue during last month's minicamp, participated in the first day of training camp practice Wednesday, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. With Shakir available as camp opens, the 2022 fifth-round pick appears poised to cement a key role in a revamped receiver corps that also includes veteran newcomers Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Chase Claypool, as well as rookie Keon Coleman. With Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis no longer in the mix, Shakir is the only returning returning wideout who has caught a pass from quarterback Josh Allen in a regular-season game, a context that should lead to added opportunities for the 24-year-old. Shakir logged a 39-611-2 receiving line on 45 targets over 17 regular-season games in 2023, then added 10 catches for 75 yards and two scores on 12 targets over two playoff contests.
Expects to be full go for camp
Shakir (lower body) said at Thursday's final minicamp practice that he expects to be 100 percent healthy for the start of training camp late July, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports. Shakir limped off the field with an apparent lower-body injury Tuesday, and while he hasn't practiced since, there doesn't seem to be substantial concern about his health. The 2022 fifth-round pick logged a strong end to the 2023 campaign and looks positioned as a key starter in Buffalo's wide receiver corps, which lost Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis but added Curtis Samuel and Keon Coleman, plus depth contributors Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Chase Claypool and Mack Hollins. Shakir is also the Bills' top return man, a role which could prove more fantasy relevant now, due to the NFL's revised kickoff rules.
Exits practice early
Shakir exited Tuesday's minicamp practice early due to an apparent lower-body issue, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports. Per Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo, Shakir chatted with trainers after suffering the injury and then limped off the field. He didn't return to the session and can be considered day-to-day. The 2022 fifth-rounder is the top returnee in a Buffalo WR corps that no longer includes Stefon Diggs or Gabe Davis, leaving Shakir to compete for snaps and targets with a group of newcomers that includes Curtis Samuel, rookie Keon Coleman, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Chase Claypool and Mack Hollins.
New teammate in WR room
Shakir has a new teammate in the receiving room after the Bills took Keon Coleman out of Florida State with the first pick of the second round Friday. This may not be a terrible thing for Shakir's 2024 outlook, as it was doubtful the Bills were going to enter the season with such a thin wideout crew, and the attention of a big target like Coleman might allow Shakir to see better looks. The latter is coming off a 39-611-2 season in 17 regular-season games, but with Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis off to new locales, Shakir has room to grow his production in his third NFL season. For now, he and Coleman project as starters, while Curtis Samuel is more of a hybrid No. 3.
Standing continues to improve
The Bills traded Shakir's teammate Stefon Diggs to the Texans on Wednesday, just a few weeks after Gabe Davis signed as a free agent with the Jaguars. One would think Bills GM Brandon Beane has a second move up his sleeve following such a blockbuster deal, plus the Bills will almost certainly select one or two wide receivers toward the top of their draft, but for now, Shakir and newcomer Curtis Samuel are the team's top two receivers. Shakir, about to enter his third NFL season, is coming off a 39-611-2 campaign over 17 regular-season games, so his fantasy prospects continue to trend upward, especially with Josh Allen's strong arm delivering him the ball.
