Both the Democratic and Republican parties will head to Michigan for their primaries on Tuesday, March 8. Michigan has the most delegates at stake for both parties of any state hosting a nominating process on March 8.

Here’s what you need to know about each party’s Michigan primary:


Michigan Democratic Primary 2016

DATE: Tuesday, March 8, 2016

POLLING HOURS: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern

CANDIDATES IN THE RACE: Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders

TYPE OF PRIMARY: Michigan is an open primary. Registered voters can choose whether to participate in the Democratic or Republican primary regardless of party affiliation.

DELEGATES AT STAKE: 148 delegates (proportional)

KEY ENDORSEMENTS: Clinton has received endorsements from a number of Michigan representatives including Sander Levin and Debbie Stabenow. Flint ministers Hubert Miller, Al Harris, and Bishop Rogers L. Jones, Sr. have also endorsed Clinton. Sanders has received endorsements from former State Rep. Betty Cook Scott and two members of the Detroit school board.

LATEST POLLS: RealClear Politics shows Clinton with an average lead of 17.7 percentage points over Sanders in early polling.

TYPE OF PRIMARY: Michigan is an open primary. Registered voters can choose whether to participate in the Democratic or Republican primary regardless of party affiliation.

DELEGATES AT STAKE: 59 delegates (proportional)

KEY ENDORSEMENTS: Rubio received endorsements from Rep. Dan Benishek, Rep. Bill Huizenga and Rep. John Moolenaar. Cruz has an endorsement from Rep. Justin Amash.
