Jose Espada: Everything you need to know

The Orioles outrighted Espada to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. He's been scrubbed from the 40-man roster, but Espada will stick around in the organization after clearing waivers. Espada tossed a scoreless frame in his lone big-league outing this season.

The Orioles designated Espada for assignment Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The righty reliever will give up his spot on Baltimore's 40-man roster to outfielder Michael Siani, whom the Orioles claimed off waivers from the Dodgers. Espada has made just one appearance at the big-league level in 2026 and struggled over 15.1 innings between Triple-A Norfolk and Double-A Chesapeake, pitching to a 5.87 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 10:13 K:BB.

The Orioles optioned Espada to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. The right-hander was called up by Baltimore on Sunday and will return to Norfolk without appearing in a big-league game. Espada fired a scoreless frame in his lone MLB appearance this year and has struggled to a 5.68 ERA across 10 relief outings at Triple-A.
