Rece Hinds: Breaking News

The Marlins acquired Hinds from the Reds on Thursday in exchange for Zach McCambley, Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports. Hinds had been designated for assignment by Cincinnati and will now get a fresh start in a new organization. The 25-year-old has huge raw power and has slashed .306/.423/.635 with seven home runs in 23 games this season at Triple-A Louisville. The downside with Hinds is that he has major contact issues, having posted a 42.0 percent strikeout rate thus far at the big-league level. Hinds will likely report to Triple-A Jacksonville initially.

The Reds designated Hinds for assignment Sunday. Hinds was optioned to Triple-A Louisville in early May after going 4-for-33 with 18 strikeouts in 12 games with the Reds, and he's now lost his place on the 40-man roster. The 25-year-old showcased his power potential in 2024 with five homers in his first 24 big-league games, but he was never able to develop much consistency with a 42 percent strikeout rate across 131 plate appearances.

The Reds optioned Hinds to Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. The 25-year-old was called up by Cincinnati in mid-April and immediately received some chances in the outfield, but he'll return to Louisville after going 4-for-33 with 18 strikeouts in 12 big-league games. Continuing his hot start to the season at Triple-A (five homers and a 1.246 OPS in 61 plate appearances), may not be enough for Hinds to get another look in the majors if he's unable to improve upon his 24.6 percent strikeout rate.
