The Angels signed Gonzalez to a minor-league contract Jan. 14. Gonzalez posted a 3.86 ERA but an ugly 11:13 K:BB over 23.1 innings in 2024 with the Yankees. He will provide the Angels with some left-handed relief depth.
The Yankees released Gonzalez on Sunday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. The left-hander has been with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since being DFA'd by the Yankees in June, but he's now been let go during the closing stretch of the campaign. Gonzalez made 27 appearances for New York this year and had a 3.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 11:13 K:BB across 23.1 innings.
The Yankees outrighted Gonzalez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday. Gonzalez didn't garner any interest via trade or waivers, despite owning a 3.22 ERA and 86:31 K:BB in 89.1 career innings in the majors coming into 2024. He'll remain in the Yankees organization and provide left-handed relief depth at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
