Janzen Tidwell: Breaking News

The Giants optioned Tidwell to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. San Francisco swapped Tidwell out of its bullpen in favor of a fresh arm in right-hander Gregory Santos, who was called up from Sacramento. Tidwell appeared in eight games during his month-long stint in the majors, pitching to a 3.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB in 12 innings. The right-hander could get stretched back out for a starting role at Sacramento.

Tidwell earned a save against the Mets on Thursday, allowing two hits and striking out two batters over three scoreless innings. Tidwell was called up from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of the contest and ended up covering the final three innings for the Giants. The right-hander breezed through his outing, holding New York without a hit while throwing 24 of 37 pitches for strikes. He was rewarded with his first career save, though there's no reason to expect additional save opportunities to come his way given that he'll likely be deployed in middle and long relief.

The Giants recalled Tidwell from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. After being sent down to Triple-A to begin the regular season, Tidwell will quickly receive a call-up to the majors to replace the injured Jose Butto (forearm). Tidwell, 24, gave up 15 earned runs over 15 innings with the Mets last year, but he kicked off the 2026 campaign by striking out three batters over 2.2 scoreless innings with Sacramento.
