Sent outright to Sugar Land

VanWey cleared waivers Friday and was outrighted to Triple-A Sugar Land, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. VanWey reached the majors for the first time in 2025 and logged a 5.06 ERA alongside a 1.69 WHIP over 10.2 innings. He now seems poised to begin the new season back in Triple-A, and the Astros could look to fill his spot on the 40-man roster during the Rule 5 Draft.

The Astros optioned VanWey to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday. VanWey made one scoreless appearance during his most recent stint in the majors. J.P. France is taking his spot on the roster and in the bullpen.

Recalled from Triple-A

The Astros recalled VanWey from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. VanWey made his MLB debut earlier this season and has appeared in eight games out of the Houston bullpen, registering a 5.59 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 6:3 K:BB across 9.2 innings of action.
