Michael Burrows: Everything you need to know

Burrows (2-4) picked up the win in Friday's 10-0 rout of the Reds, allowing three hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out six. In the right-hander's best performance of the season, Burrows survived a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the fourth inning unscathed, eventually leaving the mound after 98 pitches (62 strikes). Burrows has delivered back-to-back quality starts, his first two of the year, as he begins to shake off a rough start to his first campaign with Houston. He'll take a 5.04 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 42:14 K:BB through 44.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Mariners.

Burrows (1-4) took the loss against the Red Sox on Friday, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts over six innings. Burrows allowed zero runs in five of his frames but was burned by a three-run home run in the third inning. While it marked his first quality start of the season, the 26-year-old has now surrendered eight long balls through seven outings. He owns a 5.97 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 36:13 K:BB across 37.2 innings and lines up for a road matchup at homer-friendly Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati next weekend.

Burrows didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Yankees after allowing two runs on five hits and three walks across five innings, striking out eight. The eight punchouts were a season-high mark for Burrows, who has now recorded a 15:5 K:BB in 9.2 innings over his last two starts. Burrows has yet to record a quality start this season and has given up at least three earned runs in four of his six outings, so his performances have left a lot to be desired. The 26-year-old right-hander will carry a 6.25 ERA into his next start, which should come away at the Red Sox the upcoming weekend.
