Michael Burrows: Breaking News

Burrows (3-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Pirates, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits and five walks while striking out three over five innings. Burrows' biggest issue once again was the home run ball, as all five of his earned runs came via two long balls. Endy Rodriguez tagged him for a two-run shot in the second inning before Oneil Cruz launched a three-run homer in the sixth. The right-hander has now surrendered 15 homers across 12 starts this season and continues to struggle to limit damage. Burrows currently owns the highest qualified ERA in MLB at 5.66 to go along with a 1.54 WHIP and 57:26 K:BB across 68.1 innings. He's scheduled to face the Athletics in his next start.

Burrows (3-6) allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six over seven innings to earn the win over the Rangers on Wednesday. Burrows threw 64 of 91 pitches for strikes as he matched his longest outing of the season. It's been an inconsistent May for the right-hander, who has allowed 16 runs across 31.2 innings over his five starts this month. He also has a 21:9 K:BB with two hit batsmen in that span. For the season, Burrows is at a 5.40 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 54:21 K:BB through 63.1 innings in his first year with the Astros. His next start is projected to be at home against his former team, the Pirates.

Burrows (2-6) took the loss Wednesday as the Astros fell 4-1 to the Twins, giving up four runs on six hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out two. The right-hander didn't get much support from the Houston offense, but Burrows also got hit hard as half the hits off him went for extra bases, including homers by Victor Caratini and Ryan Kreidler. It's the second straight start in which he's served up multiple long balls, and the fifth time in 10 outings on the season. Burrows will carry a 5.75 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 48:20 K:BB through 56.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to come up next week during a road series against the Rangers.
