James signed with the Chargers on Tuesday. James will stay in the AFC West after having started 11 games for the Raiders last season prior to being released as a post-June 1 cut. He will likely serve as Bradley Bozeman's backup during the 2-2025 campaign.

Andre James: Breaking News
Officially cut by Las Vegas
The Raiders released James on Wednesday. The move was expected, and it's now official. If designated as a post-June 1 cut, the move clears $3.15 million in cap space for the Raiders but leaves behind more than $5.5 million in dead money. If Las Vegas is taking the cap hit all at once and making James a straight cut, the team clears just over $1.4 million while incurring more than $7.2 million in dead money charges. James played just one season of his three-year, $24 million contract and started 11 games in 2024.
Set to be released
James is expected to be released by the Raiders after the new league year begins Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. James will hit the open market as soon as Wednesday after making 60 starts with Las Vegas over the last six seasons. The 27-year-old will almost certainly get another shot to earn a starting role elsewhere in 2025.
