Grant Delpit Latest News
Makes six tackles in loss
Delpit finished with six tackles (one solo) in Sunday's 27-14 loss to the Steelers. The safety has now recorded at least five tackles in every game he's played in this season but one. Delpit has 84 stops (51 solo) on the year.
Tallies six tackles vs. Denver
Delpit registered six tackles (five solo) in Monday's 41-32 loss to the Broncos. Delpit tied Martin Emerson for second-most tackles for the Browns on Monday behind Jordan Hicks (12). Delpit has played at least 50 defensive snaps in all 11 games he's played this season and he's up to 78 tackles (50 solo), one pass defense and one fumble recovery on the year.
Cleveland's leading tackler in win
Delpit recorded 10 tackles (six solo) during Thursday's 24-19 win versus the Steelers. Delpit played all 67 of the Browns' defensive snaps in Week 12, and he tallied double-digit tackles for his second time this season. He's on pace for a career-best year in that category and will work to keep up the progress in Week 13 at Denver.
Logs nine stops vs. Saints
Delpit recorded nine total tackles (three solo) and defended one pass in Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Saints. Delpit finished first on the Browns in total tackles during Sunday's loss, serving as the team's leading-tackler for the second time in their last three games. The LSU product is having one of the most productive seasons of his career, having recorded 62 total tackles and one pass defended through nine appearances. He's expected to continue starting alongside Juan Thornhill as part of the Browns' top safety duo in Thursday night's matchup against the Steelers.
Makes seven stops in Week 9 loss
Delpit recorded seven tackles (five solo) in Sunday's defeat against the Chargers. Delpit finished second on the Browns in tackles, and he's now recorded at least seven stops in three of his past four contests. The strong safety has 53 tackles through eight games on the campaign, putting him on pace for the second triple-digit tackle season of his career. Delpit has been a stabilizing force in a Browns secondary that has often struggled this season.
Impresses vs. Ravens
Delpit recorded nine total tackles (five solo) in Sunday's 29-24 win over the Ravens. The LSU product played 100-percent of Cleveland's defensive snaps for the second consecutive week and tied Mohamoud Diabate for the Browns' leading-tackler Sunday. Delpit has now appeared in seven games this season, tallying 46 total tackles and a recovered fumble. The 26-year-old is expected to continue starting alongside Juan Thornhill in Cleveland's secondary as the season progresses.
Past concussion
Delpit (concussion) practiced in full Friday and has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Bengals, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The LSU product missed the Browns' Week 6 loss to the Eagles after sustaining a concussion the week prior, but Friday's full practice suggests he's passed the NFL's five-step concussion protocol ahead of Sunday's divisional matchup. Expect Delpit to assume the duties of Cleveland's top strong safety in Week 7.
Limited Wednesday
Delpit (concussion) was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's practice report. Delpit was held out of practice all week leading up to Sunday's game against the Eagles. His limited participation Wednesday indicates that he's progressing through the league's concussion protocols. However, even if Delpit logs a full practice session this week, he's not guaranteed to return for Week 7 against the Bengals unless he satisfies the league's five-step protocols.
Still in concussion protocol
Delpit is still in concussion protocol following Sunday's game at Philadelphia, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Delpit sat out of the Browns' contest in Week 6 as he dealt with a concussion, and now his availability for Week 7 appears to be in jeopardy. Cleveland's first official practice report of the week Wednesday should provide some clarity on his status.
