Landen Roupp: Breaking News

Roupp did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Cubs, allowing one run on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts over 5.2 innings. Roupp opened with five scoreless frames before allowing a solo homer in the sixth, departing one out shy of a quality start after throwing 98 pitches. It was an encouraging rebound for the 27-year-old, who had yielded eight runs while pitching through back discomfort in his previous outing Monday. He owns a 4.00 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 77:30 K:BB across 69.2 innings this season and lines up for a home rematch against the Cubs next weekend.

Roupp (back) threw a bullpen session Thursday and is on track to make his next scheduled start Saturday against the Cubs, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Roupp pitched through back discomfort in his last outing Monday in Milwaukee, but at this point it does not appear it will cause him to miss a turn in the rotation. The right-hander has accumulated a 4.22 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 72:27 K:BB over 64 innings covering 12 starts for the Giants this season.

Roupp admitted Monday's 16-2 loss to Milwaukee that he pitched through back discomfort during his start, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. Roupp was charged with eight runs on eight hits and five walks and needed 96 pitches to cover his four innings. The righty's velocity dipped significantly during the start, going from 95 mph to 90.8 mph in the fourth inning. Roupp said the back issue is "definitely less serious" than the one that cost him three months of the minor-league season in 2023, and he thinks he'll be "fine." The 27-year-old is lined up to take on the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Saturday in his next outing, but he'll need to get through a between-starts bullpen session first before being cleared to pitch in Chicago.
