Shaw went 3-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Padres. Despite being in a utility role, Shaw has been close to a regular lately, as Wednesday was his third start in Chicago's last four games, and his hot bat is making it hard to keep him out of the lineup. The 24-year-old is now batting .301 with an .849 OPS, and his ability to both hit for power and swipe a base raises his ceiling even further. It's hard to know where Shaw will slot in each day, but he's certainly establishing some fantasy value in the early going.

Matthew Shaw: Breaking News
Tallies three doubles Wednesday
Shaw went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs scored and three RBI in Wednesday's 11-2 win over the Phillies. Shaw got into a nice groove Wednesday as he delivered his first three-hit effort of the season and doubled his extra-base hit total. The 24-year-old also raised his batting average from .200 to .245 in the process. Shaw has seen his playing time trend down with Seiya Suzuki back from the injured list, though the former can still provide some fantasy value from a super utility role due to his ability to hit for power and swipe a base.
Role trending down
Shaw will start at first base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Pirates. Though Shaw will be included in the lineup Sunday, his playing time is expected to trend down moving forward after the Cubs recently welcomed Seiya Suzuki back from the injured list. Shaw -- who is hitting .237/.268/.421 with two home runs and a stolen base over 42 plate appearances on the season -- will fill in at first base while Michael Busch receives his first day off of 2026.
