Maximo Castillo: Everything you need to know

The Phillies released Castillo on Aug. 12. Castillo logged a 4.43 ERA over 20.1 innings at the big-league level with the Royals in 2023, but he didn't make any appearances for the Phillies in 2024 after being added to the organization's 40-man roster over the offseason. The right-hander was outrighted off the roster earlier this month and was eventually cut loose after compiling a 7.62 ERA over 52 innings this season between Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Double-A Reading.

The Phillies outrighted Castillo to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday after he cleared waivers. Castillo no longer possesses a spot on the Phillies' 40-man roster, but he'll remain in the organization as pitching depth at the Triple-A level. Between stops with Lehigh Valley and Double-A Reading this season, Castillo has posted a 7.62 ERA over 52 innings.

The Phillies designated Castillo for assignment Friday. The 25-year-old was sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley late in spring training after being claimed off waivers from the Red Sox, but he's now been jettisoned from the Phillies' 40-man roster. Castillo struggled to an 8.37 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 37:24 K:BB over 42 innings (10 starts) at Triple-A.
