Anthony Edwards: Breaking News

Edwards finished with 24 points (9-26 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 4-7 FT), two rebounds, two assists and three steals across 36 minutes in Friday's 139-109 loss to San Antonio in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals. Edwards had a combined 68 points at home in Games 3 and 4. Yet, the 24-year-old wasn't as productive Friday and delivered one of his worst shooting performances of the playoffs. With the Timberwolves eliminated from postseason play, Edwards will finally get a well-deserved break after returning earlier than anticipated from a knee injury suffered in Minnesota's previous series versus Denver. As expected, Edwards had a quality 2025-2026 campaign, averaging a career-best 28.8 points with 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.8 blocks and 1.4 steals across 35.0 minutes. However, he played in only 61 regular-season contests after appearing in at least 72 in each of his first five years in the NBA. The 2020 No. 1 overall pick is projected to remain in the MVP conversation moving ahead, and that could become a reality sooner rather than later if he can stay healthy. For that to happen, the Timberwolves will likely need to make some adjustments to the roster by adding depth and other reliable scoring options.

Edwards ended Tuesday's 126-97 loss to the Spurs in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals with 20 points (6-13 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 7-7 FT), two rebounds and two assists across 39 minutes. Edwards didn't offer much in terms of peripheral numbers but still led the Timberwolves in scoring. He has reached the 20-point threshold in three consecutive contests, posting at least 32 points in the first two games of that stretch. The superstar guard will aim to deliver a more well-rounded performance in Game 6 on Friday as the Timberwolves attempt to stave off elimination at home.

Edwards recorded 36 points (13-22 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 7-8 FT), six rebounds, two assists and a steal in 40 minutes during Sunday's 114-109 Western Conference Semifinals Game 4 win over the Spurs. The Timberwolves star completely took over down the stretch, pouring in 16 fourth-quarter points to help Minnesota erase an early deficit and even the series at 2-2. Edwards delivered several momentum-shifting baskets in crunch time, including a deep 27-footer and the go-ahead three with just over five minutes remaining. The 24-year-old continues to establish himself as one of the NBA's elite playoff scorers, logging his 18th 30-point playoff tally to tie him for fourth all-time in that category among players under the age of 25.
